Colbitzer Lindenwald (Forest) At around 220 hectares, the Colbitzer Lindenwald is the largest closed linden tree forest in Central Europe with an average age of around 200 years. The emergence of the forest goes back to the mean warm period after the last ice age (Atlantic: between approx. 8000 and 4000 BC), in which the climate was particularly favorable for linden trees. Due to the favorable clayey soil structure on gravelly sands, the forest has been able to survive as a relict biotope to this day.
